I am on Instagram!
The following are some artists I like a lot, I've studied with some of them...
Artist and teacher, Peter VanDyck, who teaches art in Pennsylvania but was brought out to Seattle several times to lead oil painting workshops at Gage Academy. I always keep an eye out for when he will be here and take these intense week-long workshops!
Recently enjoyed a 4 day workshop with Lois Yoshida and the art of Sumi painting. Although I had been using the brushes and paper of this style with watercolor (instead of the usual ink), it was great to finally learn something about traditional ways of approaching these materials.
John Laney's site http://www.johnlaneyartist.com/, showing some of his more recent works of art. You may see some of the same models in his drawings and my instagram, as we often go to the drawing studio in the University District on Sundays. His two sons are both artists and animators.
Another artist that I draw with frequently and is a super-talent is Kelly Koechel. Check it out!
I took a four day workshop with Valerie Collymore, a lovely person and generous teacher of oil painting at the Fry Art Museum (a great small museum that is trying some really interesting community inclusive-ness, by the way). Valerie teaches with a minimal palette of about 5 colors, which I found very freeing, especially well suited for doing oil paintings away from the home studio. It makes transporting materials easier and thinking less muddled!
Koo Schadler, egg tempera artist and teacher extraordinaire. I really enjoyed learning the egg tempera process, and lots of old master principles as well.
These sites are very interesting on the computer, although sadly some of the animation does not translate to mobile as it uses flash. Roman Romanyshyn is an artist I discovered because I bought a small etching if his at Davidson Gallery (great place by the way!). In looking at his site I come across this one for Agrafka Studio, also a good looking site. Check out the bio page, I love the way they did that!
